Miles O’Brien finds a new career?

Miles O’Brien was fired from CNN prematurely. The story goes that CNN dissolved his avaition, environment, and technology unit, thereby eliminating his position, in a series of budget cuts during the final weeks of 2009. While some (myself included) may have found his tenure at CNN useless, things have certainly changed given the most recent series of unfortunate aviation events.

First there was the Miracle on the Hudson, then the tragedy in Buffalo and the collision of satellites in the atmosphere (that may or may not be the cause of all the stuff on fire falling out of the sky in Texas).

When tragedy falls from the sky, Miles proves to be the man to go to. His blog about “Planes, Planets, Rockets and Reality” has offered some of the most insightful examination, for aviators and laymen alike, into how and why the Continental Buffalo disaster likely happened. Using graphics including maps, charts, graphs, drawings, and photographs, he keeps his reader interested and engaged. His complete and nuanced explanations offer a more serious account of the events that transpired before the plane fell out of the sky than any other article I have seen.

Clearly space and all of its baggage are what interest Mr. O’Brien. Here’s to hoping that he finds a network and a job that maximize his talents.
